Decontamination Room for Ignalina Nuclear Station
Projects
Location: Ignalina Nuclear Station
Customer: Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
NuVision Engineering successfully developed an abrasive sponge decontamination room for Ignalina Nuclear Station in Lithuania. The system can be used to decontaminate tooling, small equipment, or any contaminated materials. The process utilizes our abrasive sponge blasting technology in a controlled environment that is safe, efficient, and cost effective.
DECONTAMINATION SYSTEM DETAILS
The fully self contained decontamination system consists of:
1) An accelerated sponge blasting unit with automated sponge recovery and recycling capabilities.
2) A Blasting Cabinet consisting of a steel constructed glove box, sponge conveying hose adapter, pneumatic controlled foot pedal for sponge feed, pneumatic safety lock-out system, filtered ports for VXA air flow and 110V light system.
3) Vortex Amplifier Unit (VXA) which provides a secondary system to maintain a depression within the glove box when the blasting unit vacuum is not operating. This ensures that there is always air flow into the glove box, thus removing the possibility of exhaust of contaminated air into the operating environment.
4) Perma-Con Modular Enclosure comprised of reusable stainless steel modular panels, various specialty items, and standard erection components that assemble into a versatile sealed enclosure.
